Our Philosophy: Healing, Not Just Maintenance

At Heartland Christian Counseling, we believe that every person is a complex and beautiful creation of God—mind, body, and spirit. While our primary focus is Christ-centered counseling, we recognize that biological imbalances can sometimes create "noise" that makes it hard to hear God’s voice or engage fully in therapy.

Our approach to medication is different. We do not view prescriptions as a permanent "fix," but as a temporary tool to help stabilize the storm so that the deeper work of counseling and spiritual growth can take place.

Our Commitment to You:

Conservative Prescribing: We believe in using the lowest effective dose and only when clinically necessary.

A Path to Freedom: Our goal is to manage symptoms effectively, with a long-term eye toward helping you safely taper or reduce medication when appropriate and medically sound.

Faith-Integrated Care: We believe that God is the Great Physician. We integrate medical expertise with a deep respect for His power to bring total restoration to your life.

Meet Jamie Schumacher, PA

Physician Assistant | Medication Management Provider

Jamie Schumacher, PA-C, is a dedicated Physician Assistant with a strong foundation in emergency medicine, psychiatry, and children’s mental health. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Simpson College and completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Des Moines University. Her clinical background spans fast-paced emergency care, comprehensive psychiatric treatment, and specialized work supporting the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and adults.

As a wife, mother, and foster parent, Jamie brings a grounded, empathetic understanding of the challenges individuals and families face. Her work is shaped by the belief that every person is inherently valuable, created in God’s image, and capable of healing and wholeness.

Jamie is passionate about mental health advocacy and approaches care through a whole-person lens—spiritually, physically, and mentally. While her personal faith informs her compassion and worldview, she warmly welcomes and cares for individuals from all faiths, backgrounds, and belief systems. Her goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where every person feels seen, understood, and empowered.

By treating the whole person rather than isolated symptoms, Jamie strives to walk alongside patients as they move toward full healing and restored well-being.
